MILONGA (tango dance)
The Third Friday
Alternative Milonga of Washington DC happens at
Alliance Dance Institute
9:00 pm to 12:30 am
DJ David Liu
Expect
+ Music great for both open and close embrace dancing
+ Good tango music from Argentina, North America, and Europe
+ Enticing mix of music in tandas from
good golden age tangos (D'Arienzo, Biagi, etc),
contemporary classical tango orchestras (Gente De Tango, etc),
electronic tangos (Bajofondo, etc), to
contemporary tangos, to
alternative music for tango dancing
Do not expect
- Music of monotonous speed
- Play list mainly of songs that are used over and over again
(yes, technology allows a DJ to see the last time a song is played)
- Di Sarli as cortinas
(good DJs are not going to use potentially danceable songs for cortinas)
- Undanceable tangos of any type, be it concert tango from the Golden
Age (Gardel) or more recent periods
Plus Amenities
+ Refreshments served
+ David's new high end sound system
+ Fresh air that is NOT filled with second hand smoke
(dance floor is buffered from the double set of doors, with plenty of fresh air that prevents any smoke from coming inside)
+ Short drive from DC
(10 minutes highway from Freedom Plaza, 15 minutes total) with ample parking
